I know I haven't posted much actual content recently... I'm wrestling with a lot of big unwieldly concepts in my head. They'll make it out, I promise.
So tomorrow, I'm going to start working on the Purges graphic novel. It hasn't got a title yet. I'll let you know when it tells me what it's called. :) This is going to be very different from how I've been writing Shayara thus far... when I'm writing issues, I'm writing chunks of story, serially accessible, 22 pages. In other words, I have an out. I present the sequence, then I'm out. It hasn't taken me more that two or three writing nights to write any of these issues thus far.
The Purges GN will be different... for the first time in eight years, I'm not writing till I find the logical 22-page stopping point, I'm writing until it's done. I have no idea how long it's going to be. I know the story - gods, I know the story, most of it's been in my head for years; the image of Capri against the wall as the Hounds tear her parents to shreds is one of the earliest images I have of modern-day Shayara (as opposed to first-draft). The Purges have lived in my head, images flickering in rapid succession, for what...12, 14 years, I think.
So. I'm writing, from sunset to sunrise, the most harrowing night imaginable. And I don't know how long it will be, or how long it will take to write. The only out is sunrise.
This is also going to be the most emotional thing I've written for Shayara thus far (yes, Mouse and
yendi, even beating Shawn's reactions in issue #5. By a long shot). And I'm going to be going pretty deep to do it. So I may be a little fragile around the edges while it's getting done.
I hope you like it, when it's done.
