Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] childofchaos!

Hello to new reader [livejournal.com profile] s00j!

Medical
The usual. The hand thing was bad this morning. Woke up at least three times in the night.

KoL
Take a nap - it's time for Crimboween Present Right-About-Now...

Kittens
Anyone in Florida looking for kittens? Look no further. These kittens? Made of adorable.

Cats
Bostonians - what are the good local animal shelters? Elayna's big gift this year is a coupon redeemable for one (1) cat. In keeping with tradition, we will be doing the walk-into-the-shelter-and-let-the-cat-pick-you thing.

Daily Science
The dopamine agonist pramipexole, (Mirapex (R), Boehringer-Ingelheim) currently indicated by the FDA for treatment of Parkinson's disease, provides a high response rate of overall fibromyalgia (FM) symptom improvements...

And here are two articles on research into yoga for seizure control.

Daily BPAL

Aglaea: Three golden ambers, bright musk, peach wine and myrtle.

In bottle: Peachy, but not overwhelmingly so.

On me: Okay, scratch that. This is Peachy Like Whoa. Ew.

Dublin: The scent of misty forests, damp alder leaf, and the gentlest touch of white rose.

In bottle: Damp leaves, yes, under something sharp.

On me: Just the leaves. Mmmm. Very evocative of a forest in light rain. I'm not getting the white rose, thank goodness.

Mad Hatter: A gentlemen,s lavender-citron cologne unhinged by the feral pungence of black musk and a paroxysm of pennyroyal.

In bottle: Sharp dark mint.

On me: This is after-dinner chocolate mint. Where is the chocolate coming from? I do not know. But it's there.

Mandrake: Also called Djinn’s Eggs and the Weed of Ill Omen. Distinctive bifurcations shape this magickal plant into the form of human men and women...

In bottle: Round subtle-dark-green earthy.

On me: Oooooh. Gorgeous. Yes, deep green earthy. Not earthy as in dirt-y - earthy as in beneath the earth, dreaming, not knowing the sun. Dark and rooty and warm.

"Dublin: The scent of misty forests, damp alder leaf, and the gentlest touch of white rose."

I'm guessing they mean Dublin, Ohio? 'cos it sure ain't the one I walked through this morning.

Aye. They got the damp right, but I gotta say, anyone who names a scent "Dublin" just lost their Irish market. It wouldn't be quite as bad as calling it "Staten Island", but you get the idea.

there are a couple of good ones, but the one I can think of off the top of my head is The purrfect cat shelter which is a no kill shelter in medway that a friend of mine does volunteer work for. It might be a haul for you though.

For a shelter, I recommend Animal Rescue League of Boston (http://www.arlboston.org/Main/index.aspx). We got our first two cats there many years ago.

Hmm, downside to the miraplex, and the only significant side effect... weight loss as in 5-35Lb in a few weeks!

No more scary-thin 'song if you please!

I second the Animal Rescue League. It's where we got Bryton (that'd be a cat), and they have a bunch of branches.

Yoga as seizure control? Somehow that's not surprising. Wouldn't it be fabulous if you could just do an hour of yoga every day, and take less or no medication?

Hey, a girl can dream!

Oh crap. I'm sorry that I didn't cc you on the mail to [livejournal.com profile] regyt, but I'm guessing you've heard that Brad re-homed the kitty locally to him? I'm sad/disappointed, but can also understand how that would be easier for him to do such a hard thing.
Monday, December 4th, 2006 03:44 pm (UTC)
*nods* [livejournal.com profile] regyt told me; I e-mailed you guys this weekend to ask, but jasra @ LJ bounced!

Sad. :( But I never told Elayna about Grishka, Just In Case, so no worries about her being upset. She'll just get her cat the same way I got mine.

Darn @lj email address. I tried to fix it, but I haven't gotten the email yet. I've changed it so my regular email address shows, but only if you've friended me.

That's a neat way to get a kitty. We went through petfinder and found someone local who would let me visit (or would bring a cat over to our place) so I could test my response to the cat in a way that would let me know how my allergies were doing wrt the kitty in question and not all the other kitties/animals. Yay, kitty!

I feel Baypath out in Hopkinton is just about the best place for Cats.

We got most of our pets there as kids. They are a no kill shelter, and have a large number of cats available.

http://search.petfinder.com/shelterSearch/shelterSearch.cgi?animal=&breed=&age=&size=&specialNeeds=&declawedPets=&children=&status=&id=&internal=&contact=&name=&shelterid=MA141&sort=&preview=

Sorry for such I huge link. And yes, I'll drive

Second change for cats in JP is also good, we can try there if she does not find someone at Baypath

Baypath isn't that far from us, and we got our most recent 2 there about 10 years ago. The only problem I have with it is that their vet messed up Mel's neutering, and we ended up having to have our vet fix it. I expect the vet's differnt now, though, and it seemed like a great facility!

Sadly Mirapex makes many folk, including me, very pukey. My doc prescribed it with Phenergan for nausea and I still couldn't tolerate it... It is, as with any other fibro pharmacological experiment, worth a try.

*squee!* I can't wait to see pictures of the new addition :)

Re: cats: Have you looked at Petfinder at all? We got Sasha via them.

If you are willing to take a bit of a trek out into the country, I recomment the Pat Brody Shelter for Cats. www.catsontheweb.org. There is an application process to get a cat there.

Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem is a no-kill shelter.
