It occured to [livejournal.com profile] mightywombat and I last night that my Halloween party is going to, at the stroke of midnight, become a NaNoWriMo kickoff party, with everyone hitting their computers simultaneously.

Is anyone in our social circle, besides [livejournal.com profile] yendi, *not* doing this?

Not doing it. Not interested. I don't have any interest in forcing something like that.

cheers,
Phil

*nod* I'm not doing Shayara for NaNoWriMo - I'm doing stuff that I've been putting off for years. Not rushing Shayara. :)

Right, but I didn't mean you were forcing anything. I meant that for me it would be artificially rushing things to force out 50,000 words in a month. I can easily manage that rate -- I wrote a 30,000 word fantasy/erotic story in a week once -- but when I *have* to do it that quickly, that's forcing things. You can't rush Art.

cheers,
Phil

*nod* I doubt that "And These Places that you Haunt" is going to be anything like Art... what I'm forcing is long-overdue catharsis. I feel that if I don't have this challenge, this deadline, I won't do it, I won't get it all down and shut that door...

granted, I'm just online, but...I'm not!

I might want to, but with castles to build and miniatures to paint, odds are, I won't be participating.

Castles ?
Miniatures ???
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 08:02 am (UTC)
Castles (http://www.hirstarts.com). Make blocks out of plaster, assemble them into structures, paint them. I generally label them castles, although thus far it's been towers. You can look in my castlearchitect community for pictures. Let's see if I can get this right [livejournal.com profile] castlearchitect.
And I paint the standard wargaming and D&D type miniatures.

It depends on what you mean by your social circle. If it includes people on LJ, I'm not doing it. I'm not enough of a writer to want to try 50k words in a month. It's just not my gig. Hope you have fun with it.
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 08:02 am (UTC)
::giggle:: I had honestly not planned to start my NaNoWriMo work until I got on the bus to come home, but...if everybody *else* is going to hit their laptops at midnight, I'll certainly join the club! :D

And [livejournal.com profile] mcredneck's not doing NaNoWriMo either, of course, since he doesn't write, so he and [livejournal.com profile] yendi can keep each other company while the rest of us hit the computers.

That's why [livejournal.com profile] yendi isn't doing it - six-day business trip smack in the middle of the month!

Nopenopenopenopenopenope. Not me. Too much other stuff to do write (oops, ?Freudian slip?) now.

[livejournal.com profile] vidicon is. That's enough intellectual labor for one household.
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 08:30 am (UTC)
Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] yendi and I are doing the division of intellectual labor, too...

I, of course not being a writer, am not participating. :) As for your halloween party, I don't even know if I am invited. ;)
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 08:46 am (UTC)
Of course you are, silly woman!
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 08:47 am (UTC)
Well, not assuming anything. :)

Details? Or send me email or something if you don't want it in LJ.

I want to, but with the time constraints on my life, I don't see the ability to make that commitment. And I have something I'm working on right now that I really want to focus on, so thta would be cheating if I worked on that. I think I'm going to pretend as if I were doing it, to see how far I can get on the Peris-and-cultists book. Sort of my own NaNoWriMo...

i signed up for it, but with school and job it's gonna be a stretch, and school comes before nanowrimo. so i might get partway or something.

we'll see. :)

I haven't decided for certain yet. I know my writers' group leader plans to, so I'm thinking about it (since there would be support from her). I couldn't do Entertaining Angels as my novel-in-a-month for two reasons: 1) I've already started it, and 2) I still need to do research and figure out most of the plot.

I do have a potential story, though! Years ago (2 or 3), I had a few plot snippets pop into my head. I wrote them down and later lost them (among other snippets and junk), but they stuck in my subconscious Stuff I've Written file. During some writing exercises in the writers' group, I've had those existing snippets pop back up! I think I might have some idea what direction the tale will take, so that would be my NaNoWriMo novel.

I have a nearly-laptop-sized keyboard for my Palm now, so I can write on that. Time is my only excuse, because I have knitted holiday gifts that must be worked on during November. Must decide soon.
