Okay, yesterday, off and on, I had that left-hip-then-down-left-leg stiffness and pain when I moved. But just now, just sitting here, I got big sharp ucky pain from hip to knee. Throbbing pain. Biting my lip and white-knuckling the desk pain. Fuck.Gone now, but I hope it doesn't come back.

I know I need to go to the doctor. I know. I'm just scared. Because what if it is Something Big? I just want to ignore it, because as long as I don't know, I can feel okay most of the time...

EDIT: Yes, I *am* going to go to the doctor. As soon as I get a doctor. Which I'm working on.

If it weren't for the fact that that's about how I've been handling my foot troubles (still,) I'd suggest (I guess I still do suggest?) that uncertainty is not really the best way to acheive balance and calm in a case like this... very best luck!...

What troubles are you having with your feet?
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 08:00 am (UTC)
Dropped glass in the kitchen some while back; though the glass is mostly cleaned- judging from how my feet at least occasionally have felt since, I have been walking barefoot entirely too often around this apartment. Foolish of me. I've known about the problem almost a month now.

Yeah. You *could* just ignore it, let whatever it is get worse or just carry on the same, get lots of sympathy, and give Elayna, [personal profile] yendi, and your other close people the joy of seeing you in pain. Because I'm sure they'd *love* that.

You don't want that? Good.

Just phone the doctor. If you don't know one, speak to one of your local friends and get a number, then call the number. Now.

Open enrollment (the few weeks we get to change our medical coverage) just started - I need to find a new doctor, as the one I picked solely because I knew where they were has moved Way Far Away. I will. I have the packet at home. [livejournal.com profile] yendi will help me.

US medical cover is *evil*
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 08:03 am (UTC)
Yah. Totally evil. :( I can only pick from a few doctors. I could do the PPO plan instead of the HMO, which would allow me a better selection, but that would cost me an extra $100 per month, which I cannot afford. I'm currently paying $55/month medical and $10/month dental for Elayna and I combined, and $10/month (I think) for vision for just me. In envy the free healthcare the Canadians get! How does this all work in England?

Healthcare on the National Health Service is 99% free - you pay for prescriptions, but hospital and doctor visits are free. The downside is that it is difficult to see specialists - when I've had hospital appointments, it's taken at least 4 months to see someone. You can choose to get a private healthplan, which costs lots, but gives much better and quicker healthcare. Some people get this through work (including me, but I've never used it...).
Dentistry costs, even on the NHS - eg about £20 for a check-up, maybe £40 or so for a filling. It costs a lot more privately - and a lot of dentists now *only* take private patients - it's quite hard to get a place with an NHS dentist. Private dental care is hugely expensive.

I'm still betting on a pinched sciatic nerve or something. If not a doctor then a chiropractor, but you should definitely get this looked into.

Because what if it is Something Big?

Then they can fix it before it becomes something crippling. It really sounds like something that a chiropractor could help with.

"ignore it" makes something little Something Big.

I know a really great chiropractor who is in L5P. Let me know if you want her number. She's quite reasonable, and I'm betting she could help. Probably much more than an md.

Need to see if my HMO covers chiropractors, how that would work - I'll let you know. Thanks! :)

If you're looking for a doctor, Mikhail Gorokhov is very good. His office is in that little medical office building right across from the Toco Hills shopping center.

It does sound like sciatica to me too, but I'm no doctor. Please take care of yourself.

I'll see if he's on my HMO. Thanks for the tip!

I'm just scared. Because what if it is Something Big?

If it is somethng big, all the more reason to get to the doctor as soon as you can. Knowing what it is isn't going to make it worse. Not knowing what it is may result in it getting worse due to lack of treatment. I can understand being scared, but ignoring it could be really dangerous if it is something serious.

I just want to ignore it, because as long as I don't know, I can feel okay most of the time...

Please, find a new doctor and get checked out. I worry about you.

I'm going to - I can't like with this. *hugs* Thank you...
