Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] j_d_finch and [livejournal.com profile] nex0s!

State of the 'Song
One of those days when I woke up feeling just flattened. Which is not ideal, as I have unreschedulable stuff today!

An additional point of argh: apparently my body has decided to radically change the way it processes alcohol, to the point where I am not going to be having any for a while. Three times is enemy action.

So Hey
"I Am Thinking of You in the Spaces Between" is on Tangent's 2011 Recommended Reading List. :)

Poem of the Day
"Downhearted" by Ada Limón. Go read. I'll wait.

Sweater!
I made a bunch of resolutions last year; I pretty much kept most of them except the BARCC-work-related ones (because I left the job and all), and one writing one that derailed because Judah moved to Boston several months early (not that I am complaining!). And one other: I'd vowed to at least start my first sweater in 2011.

So on December 31, I cast on for this sweater for [livejournal.com profile] kythryne and Amy's son Miles, and I am loving it. And finding the pattern super-intuitive, which is a nice change from a lot of the stuff I've been attempting lately!

Link Soup
* DC Women: Worst of 2011.
* Chromatic Typewriter You can type a painting. I want!
* The clitoris is freakin' awesome. (Note: When Elayna saw this on my Facebook, she was screen-sharing with a male friend, who was all awkward-turtle, and she was like "sorry you feel awkward, but my mom is right, this is really nifty.")
* "Using only natural materials gathered near where his sculptures are made, artist Richard Shilling creates some of the loveliest land art we've ever seen. Due to the uncontrollable weather, Shilling sometimes only has a few minutes to capture his creations before they're swept away by the wind. It's within this short period of time that he attempts to bring to life "the most vital and vibrant moment of each sculpture" by photographing them with his camera."
* An excellent debunking of Gail Dines's Porn Wars.

Plans
I want writing time today, but thanks to my body's slow start, I may not get it - I must shower and prepare a lot of community-specific materials for a BARCC workshop tonight. And for some reason this has become one of those days where five e-mails come in for every one I answer. So okay. This is basically like a Monday, given that everyone was home yesterday. It can be a Monday. And I will do what I can, and tomorrow I will get to do nothing but writing. (Until Elayna gets home.)

Malabrigo Rios in Purple Mystery, which means he will be visible from space. :)

Next I'm making Baby Sophisticate (http://stockinette.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/baby-sophisticate/) for [livejournal.com profile] hammercock and [livejournal.com profile] trowa_barton's son - that was my original plan for Miles, but he's too big now! >.< Still, I love the one I'm knitting now!

DC Women: Worst of 2011

Given that it would be really hard to have a "best of" for DC Women, the fact that this list exists is even more depressing.

I wish you could describe
Just why you liked
This Poem of the Day
Because I read it
And re-read it
And read it one more time, just to make sure.

It said nothing to me.

Well, not "nothing", not exactly
But I felt no empathy, no grieving
No sense of loss.
No sense of pain.

I wish you could describe just why you liked this poem.
But that's not how "like" works.
Or how "describe" works.
The brain does not colocate emotions and words.
That's why poetry is hard.
That's why poetry exists.

That's why poetry exists.

The Lifetime reference didn't help a bit.

I never got to sleep last night, so I am all in full haze mode. It is annoying.
Also, it is -22.

I always knew the clitoris extended into the interior but I never knew it actually surrounds the vaginal walls and gives them a big ol' hug or that women have as much erectile tissue as men! Wow, wow, wow. Bodies are amazing.
