Mid-week updatery

* Boskone people! Is it worthwhile to stay in the hotel? Does Boskone have anything going on in the wee hours?

* Elayna is being courted by a bunch of colleges. I am so unprepared for this, as she was totally in kindergarten last week. We'll be making a plan of attack this weekend.

* My writing schedule is totally off this week, because Elayna has midterms and has been coming home at noon. She's leaving for rehearsal again at ~2:40, but Adam gets home at ~4:30 (EDIT: rehearsal cancelled, so no writing time today after all), so not much time there. One of the big lessons we've learned about the usage of space is that the person who gets easily yanked out of writerbrain by noisy distractions needs to not have her desk right on the other side of the wall from the front door. It doesn't matter how quiet people try to be, I get yanked out regardless. Next house, we are sequestering me.

* My husband has three essays in this book, yay!

* Oh, these posters are awesome.

Boskone does have night programming/events but generally not to the scale of Arisia. Also, the party scene is almost non-existent. Though to their credit it has gotten better. Their may be a few Worldcon bid parties but usually that's it. Most are of the small groups of people chatting variety than the Barfleet or Skank parties as far as I know.

1] I have generally needed to create my own nightlife at Boskone... as in, sitting with people in the bar or the lobby to create a BarCon or LobbyCon of my own. And I like filk music, so when I'm insomniac, I enjoy the choice of spending wee hours with musicians and singers in the open filking room.

I think the hotel block is full anyway.

(I've never had a room for Boskone, even the year I commuted to Framingham to attend...but that was "have no money, just bought a house" or I probably would have. I haven't bothered while it's been at the Westin even though I do for Arisia.)

Boskone isn't nearly as much a late-night scene as Arisia is. This year's schedule isn't yet up, but you can get some idea by looking at the 2011 and 2010 schedules.

Boskone has about half as many participants as Arisia, and uses about half the program space (just the Galleria side of the hotel).

Boskone's a lot quieter in terms of parties and nightlife. It's actually pretty good for hanging out in this regard, doing it in a lower-energy way. This does not mean you won't feel the quiet. It's one of the few relatively large fan-run cons that has an actual dinner break.
