So honestly, my big fear about the sleep study was that I would somehow sleep well and thereby not provide useful data.

No worries there! Did my typical wake up at 3am and then every 20-30 minutes thereafter thing.

There were a lot of electrodes, and I have itchy welts from each one, but the thing that really annoyed me was the nasal cannula. Pfeh. Also, the electrodes covered most of my face. Also, I am officially the smallest person they're had at the sleep center. Yaaaay.

Results in 3-5 days.

The camera? Looked like GladOS. How is one supposed to sleep properly with GladOS watching?

Here is some random information:

* Due to the timing of the move, I get no birthday party this year. Again. At least not anywhere near my birthday. Which makes me cranky, but hey, new house, and that's more important.

* If you are a friend of Elayna, you are invited to the premiere of Seussical: the Musical at her school! She is playing Mrs. Mayor! That's in midMarch; contact me for details.

* Adam's turning 40 in April! There will be a sedate party with probably lots of gaming.

For now, I must decide if it's naptime or packing time.

I hated the nasal cannula and the one under my upper lip but I'm glad I went through with it b/c I got a CPAP. CPAP sleep is the sleep of Gods once you get used to it.

That reminds me I should have a not-sedate party for my 40th.

My vision has been having good days and bad days over the last mumble years, apparently tracking barometric pressure.

Sure enough, my last eye appointment was on a beautiful sunny day. My optometrist could measure a prescription drift in my left eye, but not in my right.

I have new glasses; sure enough, on bad days, my vision blurs out.

I'm glad your sleep study did not hit an atypical good night.

That reminds me that I need to do something for my Answer Year.

(And I'm sure we can have a "Shadesong's Birthday (Observed)" at some point....)

At least GlaDOS wasn't offering you cake.

Yeah, the electrodes do leave marks. They go away shortly, though. I hope the docs got the data they need to give you the help you need.

My brother orchestrated the Broadway production of "Seussical." :) Hope Elayna has fun doing it!

was it freezing cold in the room? When I did mine they were like "you didn't move much when you woke up each time?" and I was like "Because it was 5 degrees in there and I was frozen solid!"

notes that is a totally different kind of 'gamefest' than what [livejournal.com profile] shadesong referred to in her post ;-)

I had to look up cannula. I had honestly never encountered the word before, and there aren't many english words I can say that about. I was pretty sure it wasn't some kind of cake, but that was the first image that came to mind.

It's when they stuff your nose with a sweetened ricotta filling.

OMG I HATED my cannula....I got out of surgery and ripped it out of my nose every time the nurses would leave me alone. They bribed me with more ice chips morphine if I left it in. I still wasn't convinced. So much HATE.

Nasal cannulas do not bother me NEARLY as much as NG tubes.

P.S. Never, ever try to rip out your NG tube; that makes everything exponentially worse.

So, as someone who works with EEG on a daily basis (for epilepsy, nonetheless)... what do you mean when you say "a lot of electrodes"? Did they use the normal clinical electrodes with collodion adhesive and lots of head measurements, or one of the systems with either saline or rubber cups and an electrode gel?

Electrodes covering most of the face just make me think of the EEG systems that Electrical Geodesics (www.egi.com) makes. We use one of their 128 lead systems for our research project, although it's the 256 and 512 lead systems that end up covering most of the face.

What if I only tangentially know Elayna, but might still want to see it (if work craziness settles a bit by mid-March, which is possible but not assured) ?

Fine by me! :)

I really ought to have a sleep study done but I'm worried that with all the *acoutrements* I won't sleep at all and that would be just as bad data as if I'd slept well.
