How is it only Wednesday? This is a very long week.

Monday was a Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day for all of us, mostly for different reasons. What made it even worse was that our coping mechanisms don't always intersect; for instance, Judah needed snuggling, and I very much needed to not be touched at all. So, y'know, at least one person is going to be even worse off in that situation. We prioritize needing-to-not-be-touched (no matter who needs to not be touched), and thankfully it didn't take me too long to get to a snuggleable point, and things got better. But it's rough. It sucks when any of us can't get our needs met, and twice as much if it's because another person currently has acute needs, because then we hurt for them too.

On the plus side, all of our awful stuff was temporary and has faded/is fading. Elayna's the one still under the little black raincloud; she put off a lot of stuff til the end of the school year, and she hit the dreadful point where she does not have sufficient time to Do All The Things. Her best friend helped her work out a schedule, and, well, it's been my job this week to keep her on it. Guess how much both of us love that. She's down to a lab report and a project in chemistry, a joint project in history (which at least she's not late on), and a report for photography (ditto). And studying. Finals start tomorrow and go through Tuesday.

I have been busting my butt on the same stuff I was busting it on last week, except now I have less time, because Elayna's now on half-days through the end of the year. Due to the awfulness of Monday, I took Tuesday mostly-off and got started on a shawl, did some reading, et cetera, but today I am back on it. *nod*

(I do need to actually schedule time for relaxing stuff these days. I have found that I won't get to it otherwise.)

Tonight there's a Juliana Finch house concert! Not here. Someone else's house. You're supposed to join a Facebook group to get the address, but I find that odd and eyebrow-raising, so Juliana gave me the address. E-mail me and I'll give it to you. If Elayna finishes her work, she and Adam get to come with; if not, I go alone (and will eventually be met there by Judah, who's busting out Kickstarter rewards on his machine as we speak).

The Menagerie people are pretty easy about adding people to their Facebook group. I can add you if you'd like me to do that. They're just trying to keep their street address off the public Internet.

I get that, but the "you must join our cult" thing is weird. I've never seen a house concert venue do that; usually it's e-mail to RSVP and they'll reply with the address.

It's not a cult, trust me. I've been there once this year, and the host is a very nice person who is trying to balance announcing public events with maintaining a modicum of privacy. BTW, she raises urban chickens and will show you them if you're interested.

Should I add you? (You can always leave the Facebook group later if you decide it's not for you.)

Should I add you?

No... that's a blanket no for adding me to any groups, btw! They seem to result in epic spam.

Also, the chickens might keep me away.

The standard for announcements tends to be posting Facebook events with "message for address" or having the artist list them as "X house concert; e-mail to RSVP & for address". The method used here is head-scratchy because it's difficult to pass the info that a house concert even exists without signing up for an unknown group. There's no way to contact the host and even get a vague idea of the location. (Juliana and I are friends, is how I got it.) It does the artist a big disservice, because most people just won't go. But if she's just figuring events out, she'll figure that out pretty soon!

The chickens are fenced off in an area far from the outdoor concert area of the yard. Also, because of rain, this one's going to be indoors.

I'll e-mail you offline a list of this house's other scheduled concerts, in case you find any of them of interest.

Excellent - rain would've kept me away even more than chickens!

Yay Juliana! She played our LARP recently. :)

I have known her since she was 16! :)

Three cheers for small worlds and cool-people intersections. :)

Is Juliana the one who sang the David Duchovny song at your house concert last year?
Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 11:23 pm (UTC)
Yep!

Sadly, I'm not going to make it; I've turned up rideless, and the weather's playing merry hell with my body, so a long T commute isn't an option.

:(

Yet another reason why I should live THERE.

Sorry to hear that you had to miss it ;-( Feel better soon.

(It was intensely crowded, standing room only for a while.)

She sang it tonight, too. She said she can't put it on YouTube because she doesn't have the rights to the song (I guess this means she did not write it).
