Woke up at 8, which really felt very early - but I was fairly well rested. As y'all know, there was no coffee. :(
We managed to get everyone showered and dressed, and it was off to the hair salon. For those of you just tuning in: my natural hair color is blondish brownish (what my stylist calls ash blonde). I dyed it Radiant Ruby in January; it's grown out, and I have about an inch of ash blonde roots, Radiant Ruby in the middle, and dark ends. Ech. I've been camoflauging the suckiness by wandering about in pigtails, but one of my goals this trip was to get my hair back to something resembling acceptable.
So we get to the stylist. I only trust one person with my hair; Kim has been cutting my hair since I was 10. She knows my hair. She knows me. She took one look at me and got this look of unmitigated horror, and I spent the next two hours swearing to her that I would never ever dye my hair again.
Bleach. Rinse. Dye. Mix dyes together. Crowd of 5 stylists examining my hair. Final approval. Shampoo. Rinse. Trim. Blow-out. She always blows my hair out straight, as I can't do it on my own and it looks pretty that way. I finally get my glasses back and look at myself in the mirror.
Whoa.
Straight straight hair, curling under a teensy bit right under my shoulders. Darker than I'm used to - my hair lightens as it lengthens, and this is the color of my roots, with a teensy reminder of Radiant Ruby. It came out to be this sort of chocolate-cherry-ish color.
It's *pretty*.
*Really* pretty.
darkmattr, bring your digital camera tomorrow so we can get a pic of it before I fuck it up entirely.
So. Wow. I pay. We have lunch at my favorite bagel place, which I haven't been to in a year - and the waitress recognized me as soon as I walked in ("You haven't been here in a while!"), which was nifty. Went to Walgreens, picked up some more makeup - my lipstick has been discontinued, so I'm still trying to find a new shade to be slavishly loyal to. Went to the bank. Then I went to my old place of work - Castle. :)
I'll say it - I miss Castle. The job itself drove me insane - I miss the people. So this was a planned highlight of my trip. The past few summers, Dad had appeared at Castle on random Fridays bearing coolers full of ice cream, so that's what I did - marched in with ice cream. Chocolate eclairs and ice cream sandwiches and Nestle Crunch ice cream bars and popsicles. :) Saw Ryan right off; marched down to Nickie's office and collected her, then hung out in the production room and awaited the flood. :)
It was *really* good to see everyone again. I was seriously skipping down the halls, and everyone was happy to see me, and not just because of the ice cream, and I was happy too, even though Celeste commented loudly on my big ol' butt, and I happily disrupted the entire office for a while. Superfun. :) Wish I could've stayed longer, but Mom was all antsy. :(
So. Got home. Relaxed. Finished "The Store". Started "The First Counsel" by Brad Meltzer (yes, it's a legal thriller, but it's by the new writer of Green Arrow! I still get Geek Points!). And tonight, I'm going to see Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood with Mom and
edie22. It's actually gotten some really good reviews! Stop laughing. :P
Movie reviews and more news, if any, tomorrow.... *kisses* to all of you!
P.S.
yendi will not be content until I state that he got a haircut too. He looks Very Pretty.
