Big long political outrage post: 5 comments.
"What are you wearing?" post: 30 comments and rising.

You guys are politically apathetic. But you all look pretty today.

I posted lots of political crap. but I did refrain from putting politics in the clothing thread.
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 08:24 am (UTC)
Yeah, but you posted it in [livejournal.com profile] yendi's thread, not mine. :P
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 08:28 am (UTC)
Sorry, that's the one that took off.

But I didn't see the sense in making any comments because I thought your own post summed up my own feelings quite neatly. :)

cheers,
Phil

Oh, okay. :)

What we used to call the usenet nod. Silence means no one disagrees with you enough to say anything.

Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 08:52 am (UTC)
Hm. I suppose I can accept that. :)
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 10:31 am (UTC)
Yeah, but back in the classic Usenet days, there wasn't a topic in the world that at least ten people didn't disagree with. Vehemently. Enough to flame over. And this includes statements like, "Denver is a city in Colorado."
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 10:35 am (UTC)
Wasn't usenet great?
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 10:39 am (UTC)
There are cities named Denver in states other than Colorado, BTW.
IA IN MO PA AL TN AR KY OH WV IL MO OH and NY all have Denvers of their very own. So lose the coloradocentric viewpoint there mister. They don't even teach Americans about their own geography any more, do they?

See, I was on usenet.....

I pretty much try to avoid discussing politics. I'm a fairly fervent Libertarian, but a quiet one. And especially since I've been sick the last few days, I'm trying to avoid the serious thought that a seroius political discussion would require. I hurt enough as it is...at least my *brain* doesn't hurt right now. (Unlike my sinuses, and my throat, and my stomach muscles from coughing, and my shoulder muscles, also from coughing, and my toe which has a blister from these boots that don't *normally* rub *there*...)

Oh, I'm just teasing!

Yeeps. Poor ouchie 'Ro. If you were here I'd install you on the comfy couch with a blanket and tea with honey and Buffy Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD...
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 08:51 am (UTC)
Awwwwwwww...and a shoulder rub? **puppy dog eyes**
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 10:23 am (UTC)
Of course a shoulder rub! And a back rub. And I would play with your hair.
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 12:25 pm (UTC)
Ooooh. *sigh* How many days until DragonCon?
Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 12:59 pm (UTC)
Too many!

I don't always feel qualified to comment on American politics.

I mean, I mutter and grumble enough about Bush, and I keep having to say "I'm not anti-American, but..." and that bothers me. I like most of the Americans I've met. Sure, there are culture clashes, and indeed culture crashes sometimes, but by and large I like AmeriCANs. I'm starting to not like AmeriCA, though, and that, as I said, bothers me.

This leads to something that's becoming more and more of a common attitude here - a growing disinterest in American politics, because it's seen that it's all bad news and getting worse.

Clothing on the other hand - I'm dressed almost every day.

Bah. Incoherent today. Don't mind me.

Most americans aren't interested in american politics. Much of it is reduced to bad drama. See 90% of the whole impeachment thing. More of it happens in back rooms and we have a sense we can't affect it. It's just a game played by wealthy people that rarely effects us in ways that make sense. And since the wealthy people who do play are such lousy choices, many americans don't bother voting. When you see numbers that say 57% voter participation or whatever, remember that not everyone is registered. 25% of the eligible population and that's great voter turnout here.

It's pathetic, really.

Agreed with all of the above. Including the backrubs for [livejournal.com profile] iroshi. :)

I can make myself a real pain in the ass, but there's always that thought at the back of my mind that when I become too much of a pain in the ass, I'm going to get taken out of the game rather uncerimoniously and illegally.

I'm surprised the OSU folk didn't hire non-student proxies to protest for them... or did they? I fancied the students holding up signs that read "I am not protesting the heavy-handedness with which I am silenced" or something. That would be classic.

Hmmm, you and I double-teaming [livejournal.com profile] iroshi.... as [livejournal.com profile] chrisv would say, I just went to my happy place...
