...if you perch upon the lap of a [livejournal.com profile] csecooney, she will write on you.

"There is salt in this flesh", that says. Cooney! However did you know?

Also, if you knit, several people will photograph you doing so.

(That is me starting a new shawl at a panel. I showed [livejournal.com profile] pattytempleton, who took both of these pictures - "All of this, things like that great big shawl I just finished? all just starts with these three tiny stitches.")

Pics of her from Explo are hitting Facebook. Hee.

So beautiful.

So silly.

And this looks like it ought to be their album cover. (He's a stand-up comedian, she's a singer/actress - together, they fight crime!)

There are a few dozen pics up so far (the three above are all by the awesome [livejournal.com profile] alyveritya). Yay. Can't wait for her to get back from movies/shopping with her aunt so I can show her!

Happy early birthday to [livejournal.com profile] gumboeditor, who advances a year this weekend!

Hello to new readers [livejournal.com profile] alanka and [livejournal.com profile] brithistorian!

Medical
Appointments today; [livejournal.com profile] ariesd is accompanying me. *breathes* I plan to type up an informal medical history for both conditions/doctors. This will take up my entire day, these appointments; don't expect to hear anything til after 4. (Read: don't panic if the day goes by without news. Some of you do that.)

Shakespeare for Locals
Coriolanus, by the Actors Shakespeare Project, through 4/5. The Winter's Tale, by Theatre @ First, 4/23-5/2. Anyone want to go?

Could you change your life in 37 days?
This is Day One.

My thing to change? I'm making a commitment to treat my body better, to improve my self-care. This involves daily exercise of some sort or another, getting to all of my doctor appointments, and fixing my dual problems with food - not eating well, and stress-eating.

I'm already doing well on some aspects of self-care - I don't sleep-deprive myself (even on the Great Train Trip!), and I never miss taking my meds. But I could do better, and I think that if I keep this commitment to have healthier attitudes about food and exercise, it'll help a lot.

What will you do?

Pic of the Day

The corset is by Mayfaire Moon, and the hat is by ViolentBelle. :) Still looking remarkably well put-together after a nice of dancing with [livejournal.com profile] gwynraven! Next time Ill bring bobby pins for the hat, but even so, that wee hat survived my suitcase and a very full night. Good stuff.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] doeeyedbunny and [livejournal.com profile] eyewrist!

Medical
Whoa, am I having a slow brain today. Glacial. This sucks. It'll help with the doctor stuff, though, I guess.

I am really just now realizing how much the neurologists in Atlanta traumatized me. I get sick to my stomach just thinking of doctor appointments these days. And I never *loved* going to the doctor, but it was never like this.

Oh hai, we are the Gojirawitzes.

Featuring Elayna's awesome sleek elegant new hairdo.

Explo
I need to reserve Elayna's space for next year. But. Yikes. Residential is $4300 for a three-week session. With a $750 deposit. I can get my parents to cover the deposit, but that's... insurmountably steep, and it hits my "you want how much per week?!?" button (said button also being why I've not been able to attend programs like Clarion and Odyssey). She really wants residential. But Day is $2050 (or $3715 for both sessions), and she'd get to stay over up to three nights per week.

So I think I am going to have to say no to residential. I hate saying no to her on things she wants this much. But not this year. If she goes to Explo in 2010, she'll be at Yale, and then she'll be doing residential. It's just a matter of waiting one summer.

I want to get the deposit in soon, because financial aid opens in January. We missed out on financial aid last year because we found out about Explo after the window had closed; we qualified for a small grant, but were told that we'd qualify for more with the official financial aid. Single income and all. So I'm telling Mom that what I want most this year is that deposit in, that space reserved. So we can jump right on that financial aid next month, and then have a better idea of how much we need to raise - no last-minute raffles and scrambling. A more organized effort.

Wind Tunnel Dreams
2/5 of the Alanna piece is done. And it's the creepier 2/5. So I have confidence that I'll be able to knock it out by the end of the week.

I'm figuring out what I want to do with WTD in 2009. I think I was really chafing at the rules I'd set up for myself - seven-part story, day 1-7 - and I did better when I allowed myself to be more free-form. So that's probably what WTD will look like in 2009. Usually five days in a row, but timingwise, more when it works for me (a rigid schedule pus WTD on top of other things sometimes). The occasional full month. Collaborations when they appeal to me. (There will be three Wyrding Studios collaborations in 2009 (so far!) - on their own, not WTD.) Working solo when it appeals to me.

Basically? We'll see.

There is a giant black hole at the centre of our galaxy, a study has confirmed. German astronomers tracked the movement of 28 stars circling the centre of the Milky Way, using the European Southern Observatory in Chile. The black hole is four million times heavier than our Sun, according to the paper in The Astrophysical Journal.

Plans
I am so exhausted. Still crashing from the trip. If I'm to nap today, though, it must be brief and not for some time. I need to write the remaining 3/5 of the Shayara flipside subscriber bonus, and I have that neuro appointment - then a brief nap window before I have to take Miss Kid to Girl Scout caroling at the mall. Where [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain will pick me up for our date night.

Humph. *nose in air*

Though, no, I am secretly pleased that there's at least one picture. (I am, at the same time, wishing my hair wasn't smashed flat by Teh Hat, and also mentally booking an appointment to have my red streaks put back in.) The front of the corset looks like this - [livejournal.com profile] ysobelle has many styles, colors, fabrics, et cetera. And she is a nifty person and friend-of-Spooky.

And! This fit me totally off-the-rack. Um, so to speak; it is an overbust. But. I did not expect a non-custom corset to ever fit as well as this, me being as short-torsoed as I am. But [livejournal.com profile] ysobelle eyed me and said "Hm. This should fit!" and lo, it did. And had ribbons.

So you should all go buy corsets now.

(Oh hey, you can see my bra strap through that top. So noted.)

She thinks we don't look alike.

:)

It's hard to get pictures of her these days. She doesn't want to be photographed. So I have a bunch of pictures of her holding things in front of her face.

But. This is Elayna, suited up for the Charles River Cleanup, giving a smile that approximates her usual smile. :)

Not a great picture, as there's no such thing as a great picture of me, but you get the idea. :) I still have hair. It's just not quite as heavy/overwhelming.

[livejournal.com profile] persis asked me to do a reading in Dragoslair at Boskone - the kid area. I agreed. (Remember that three-cons-in-a-month thing? Madness!) It was billed as "Bedtime Stories for Young and Old", so I led off with the Jewel Queens, followed that up with "Wool and Silk and Wood" and the jewel-queens arriving at the grandmother's house. Followed that up with the "stop picking at that!" short from Wind Tunnel Dreams back in February and, well, anything else that was reasonably lighthearted; I do tend toward the grim and gritty. Dove into Shayara with a slice of Jessa's story, and a bunch of Napalm stuff. Note: Kids love Napalm. (The character, not the substance.)

The reading was really well-received. Like I said, I'm still learning this stuff! I rushed the transitions between storybits a bit, [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid said, and I figured out why - within the story, I am the Pearl Queen, the jeweler's apprentice, Jessa, Napalm. And then I emerge, and I'm just me, and there is a room full of people staring at me. (And applauding. That's okay. If they were just staring, it would be bad.) So I blink and say "Okayhere'sanother!" and dive back in. I need to work on that. :) [livejournal.com profile] liamastliam said I did very well at giving every character a separate voice, and he loved the stories.

I had a good growd. There are people in Liam's pics I don't remember seeing! Too focused on reading. :)

So anyway, [livejournal.com profile] liamstliam took a bunch of pictures, as he is wont to do. Notes: As this is Dragonslair, all the chairs were pushed against the wall to allow for playspace, so most of my audience was sprawled on the floor. Attendees ranged in age from about three to however old Liam is. :P (The youngest actually said "That's a great pun!" at one point.) I am sitting crosslegged on that chair with the skirt hanging over my legs, is why I look weird, proportionally. (My feet don't touch the ground.)

on an average morning. on an average morning.
I roll out of bed and into my office. If the camera happens to be there, sometimes I take a picture. Hi. Yes, I'm still in my pajamas. Stuffed animal/action figure roll call: Seen behind me are one (1) moose, a Twin Star, Darth Maul, Sir Didymus, and Jareth. Not pictured, but also on those shelves: two (2) more moose (meese!), a Totoro, and a Domo-kun.

School Spirit Week. Hat Day. So she borrowed Adam's Cthulhu hat.

:)

Yes, this is way blurry. I may try to get her to pose with it again. This was a spontaneous thing... she's smiling her Real, Actual smile, not a plastic "get the camera away from me" smile, though, so I love it.

Yes, I have a luck dragon poster on my office door. And a blue squeezy shark on my shelf. The thing it's next to is the ambulatory brain Spooky brought me when I was in the hospital for my video EEG monitoring.

Elayna wears lots of jewelry, multiple layers of necklaces and bracelets; she tears the cuffs off her long-sleeved shirts and layers short-sleeved shirts over them. She prefers her jeans at least mildly shredded. She raids my closet for skirts and silly socks; she wears her socks unmatched. She's getting most of that lovely hair cut off on Thursday. *sigh* But the new hair length will be easier for her to manage. And funkier. And she needs a change, and this change is important to her.

She will be thirteen in a little over a month.

We must put blue or red stripes in her hair, when we put the red in mine.

I never thought I'd be a mom. And then I never thought that I would love being a mom. But my love for this mercurial tatterdemalion, this blossoming writergirl, this witchlet, this perfect storm - my love for her is bigger than I am.

That is enough rambling for now. :)

Coyote-chan got bored during yesterday's impromptu Girl Scout Meeting, so she started drawing me.

Did I mention that she calls me Kitsune-sama?

(Incidentally, the pic got cropped in the scanning process, so you can't see just how adorable the tail is. What I am apparently saying is "Is that your final answer?". My mug says "lol kthxbai ._.")

Also by [livejournal.com profile] hughcasey. This is my "If I humor you, will you stop pointing that thing at me?" face.

Note to self: Never forget to pack your anti-frizz hair stuff again. *wince*

Also? This is me after a long day of people yanking at and petting my hair. This is what happens. The natural curl gets yanked right out. I think that I will start hitting people who play with my hair. This is your warning.

Why am I posting this if the condition of my hair makes me twitch? Because Hugh actually kinda captured my eye color, which is hard to do. So ignore the rest of the picture. Just - eyes. And awesome glasses.

Also also? Yes, those are feathers in my hair.

Another Arisia pic. I don't like to be photographed, because I don't photograph well. But I let [livejournal.com profile] hughcasey take this one of me and [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain... I think this was between my reading and the Goblin Ball. And my hair is a mess because I forgot to pack my anti-frizz stuff, and my face looks weird here. But it's a great pic of [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain! So.

[livejournal.com profile] fireheart noted that I look much better in meatspace than in my pictures. This is true. I think it's partly because I am always in motion, and photos rarely capture the kinetic energy (yesterday's pic of Elayna excepted).

We have no pics just of me in the corset. I was nervous about being photographed, so when people asked to take my picture, I kept pulling Feste in. What? He was dressed up,too! It's a lovely corset, though. By Brute Force. And the dress, by Moresca, was my bridesmaid dress from [livejournal.com profile] dark_blade's wedding. Y'all, this is how amazing Moresca is: That dress fit me 50 pounds ago, and it still fits. Snug in the arms, but otherwise just fine. Stretchy velvet is wonderful. Also, I have broken the rules: I am getting further use out of a bridesmaid dress!

Cute moment: a little girl came up to me right around when this pic was taken, hanging out in the lobby. "I like that," she said, pointing to my dress, to the corset. "Thank you!" I replied, and complimented her on her tigery face paint. So cute.
