For the story I finished yesterday, I needed an alcoholic drink called The Witch's Heart. So I turned to Twitter and asked what it should be, with the note #itneedsacherry.

[livejournal.com profile] zombie_dog: "Prepare a glass of sugared absinthe over a cherry. Pipe ginger liqueur into the BOTTOM of the glass, do not stir."

[livejournal.com profile] zarhooie: "1pt kirschwasser, 1pt bourbon (warmed), 1 cherry, set on fire."

[livejournal.com profile] tablesaw: "Irish Whiskey, unpitted cherries & chamomile in a jar. Bury facing NNW in yard of enemy for 3 mos. Serve chilled, swallow the pit."

What would your recipe be?

I think this depends mightily on what kind of witch we are dealing with. Glinda, Baba Yaga, and Hermione all would be very different drinks!

That said I'm inclined to go with a shot of some sort. Maybe a cherry marinated in Jäger, then stuffed in the bottom of a shot glass topped with black Sambuca. You have to get the cherry out using your tongue. ...I feel the need to test this to see if it tastes horrific.

Let me assure you: it does. Save your taste buds, leave this a hypothetical drink. }:->

Lightly dribble light chocolate syrup on the inside in a swirly pattern. In a shaker mix godiva white chocolate, cherry vodka and a dash of cherry liquer. Shake and strain over ice, top with whipped cream and a cherry.

1st prepare one half cup of dark hot chocolate. Microwave or heat a shot of whole milk to it's almost boiling, dissolve shaved dark chocolate in it until it's dark and syrupy. Add to 2 shots of Royal Mint-Chocolate Liqueur. Add the mix to half a measure of crushed ice and blend.

Next carefully add an equal measure of chilled green ginger liqueur to a shot of vodka cooled to it almost freezes, pour over a nugget of dry ice in the bottom of a tall glass. Carefully pour the chocolate down the side of the glass and onto the top of the chilled layer. Do not shake or stir.

Ideally the chocolate layer should form a frozen crisp crust where it contacts the chilled alcohol, until it's disturbed by drinking when it should go hubble bubble.

Microwave or heat a shot of whole milk to it's almost boiling, dissolve shaved dark chocolate in it until it's dark and syrupy.

Might want to rethink that, given the temps at which chocolate burns and the temps at which milk simmers:

Hm... Something bitter, black, and sharp.

Something like an apothecary, but maybe with mint schnapps instead of creme de menthe.

So:

1 part creme de menthe
3 parts bitters
1 part absinthe, lightly chilled
shake, then
drop in a frozen cherry

It would have been a Shirley Temple, except the cherry's been soaked in Everclear.

In a tumbler place
1 strawberry crushed
Pour in 1 part ginger syrup, 1 part jagermeister, pour over the top carefully some bacardi 151 rum or everclear. Light and serve.

Invisible cherry is invisible. ;-p
