Full moon
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions! In lieu of anything complex, as we didn't want to feel rushed, [livejournal.com profile] mightywombat and I honored the full moon with a long walk. And ice cream. Because everything worth doing is worth doing with ice cream.

Vermicious Knids
The vermicious knids are from "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator", guys. Bone up on your Roald Dahl! Bonus cool points to [livejournal.com profile] tanaise, [livejournal.com profile] melvh, and [livejournal.com profile] phantom_wolfboy. Heh. I should make that a contest - name a character or race or event from a book that you should all know, and see who gets it.

On how much [livejournal.com profile] karlita rocks
Elayna was absolutely delighted to get mail yesterday, both pieces from [livejournal.com profile] karlita - a postcard from London, and a little Halloween packet with stickers, mini erasers (her particular favorite), and a jack-o-lantern notepad! *hugs* to [livejournal.com profile] karlita - thank you so much, that was incredibly nifty of you, and you totally made Elayna's day. :)

On Elayna, and homework
The current homework issue: She rushes through her math. This means that she ends up transposing numbers, or subtracting when she should be adding or vice versa. Any moms have tips on getting her to slow down and think? We're checking her work and making her do the problems over...and it's all stuff like that, stuff where we can easily see that she's just rushing it. No problems with the technical knowledge.

And that is all for now.

Okay. I am a big dork. Yes, I still listen to 80s metal bands. Love 'em. Even Bon Jovi. I touched Jon once. It was gooood.

But yes. I love Poison. I love Def Leppard (both of them have new albums out!). And this is the cheesy-ass song that's been going through my head all morning.

Def Leppard, "All Night"
I like a woman who loves to drive
Loves to do it fast, yeah, above 95
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, oh yeah

I love a woman who likes to make me sweat
Who'll come on round lookin' for love, get what she can get
Show me babe what's on your mind
I wanna feel ya one more time
all night )

It occured to [livejournal.com profile] mightywombat and I last night that my Halloween party is going to, at the stroke of midnight, become a NaNoWriMo kickoff party, with everyone hitting their computers simultaneously.

Is anyone in our social circle, besides [livejournal.com profile] yendi, *not* doing this?

1. What's your favourite colour?
a. Answer for different categories: your clothes, what colour your bedroom is, what colour your living room is, what colour stuffed animals you like, anything that comes to mind.

'k. My favorite colors, in general, are purple and dark green. For clothes? Black, charcoal grey, dark green, indigo...

2. What kind of candy do you like?

Chocolate. Dark chocolate.

3. What are your favourite comfort foods?

Pasta, or *anything* with garlic.

a. Which fast food joints do you like/hate?

I'll confess to liking McDonald's. I hate Wendy's and Burger King. Like Subway, when I'm in the mood for it.

b. When you're heading for a restaurant, what types (Mexican, Italian, seafood) do you put on the list to decide between?

Italian, Italian, and Italian. There's a serious shortage of Italian restaurants in Atlanta. Something needs to be done about this.
but wait, there's more! )

Okay, yesterday, off and on, I had that left-hip-then-down-left-leg stiffness and pain when I moved. But just now, just sitting here, I got big sharp ucky pain from hip to knee. Throbbing pain. Biting my lip and white-knuckling the desk pain. Fuck.Gone now, but I hope it doesn't come back.

I know I need to go to the doctor. I know. I'm just scared. Because what if it is Something Big? I just want to ignore it, because as long as I don't know, I can feel okay most of the time...

EDIT: Yes, I *am* going to go to the doctor. As soon as I get a doctor. Which I'm working on.

My current lunchtime book is Heart of Gold by Sharon Shinn, which is *really* good so far. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] bheansidhe, for getting me hooked on her! :)

[livejournal.com profile] mightywombat lent me Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. And Work-friend Jeanette lent me Blood and Ivory by P.C. Hodgell, the long-awaited Jamethiel Priestsbane short story collection. With three brand new stories written just for it!

So what do I read next? My head's gonna explode, I tell you. An embarrassment of riches.

...the pain is so bad that it's making me nauseous.

Comes and goes. The pain, that is. Not the nausea.

I wanna go home.

So I had another shooting pain, and I figured I'd call my mom to get her advice on what would be better, Excedrin or Advil. Mom wasn't home; Dad was. So I said, "I'm having pain, and I want to know what I should take."

Dad: "What kind of pain? Where?"
Me: "Sharp, shooting pains... lower back down to my knee. Sometimes all the way down to my feet, but today, just to the knee."
Dad: "Are your toes changing color?"
Me: "Ummm.. no."
Dad: "Okay, it's not vascular. Is the pain along the bottom of your leg or the top?"
Me: "Umm - middle - more the top right this second, but generally the bottom as well?"
Dad: "Constant?"
Me: "Intermittent."
Dad: "Press around the small of your back... can you recreate the pain by doing that?"
Me: "Ow. Yeah. Right side of back, but the pain's in the left leg..."
Dad: "Sciatica. If you can do that with your back, it's sciatica. You might have a herniated disc - go to the doctor. For now, take 600 mg of Advil. With milk or food. And use a heating pad."

Well, then.

Dad has the common sense the gods gave a doorknob, in a lot of ways, but he has very specialized pockets of extensive information. I'm glad that this is one of them.
