We just got him back!

Summation: His teeth were for shit. He did not have a broken jaw! It's just that the abscess was so awful that it shifted one of his fangs to the point where he couldn't close his mouth because it wouldn't line up.

So he needed teeth pulled, poor kitty. But that is all he needed. They ran a bunch of tests, so we have fingers crossed that there's no underlying horrible thing.

But the cost was actually, miraculously, only ~$500. So we have this covered with the donations we already have. No auction necessary, and I'm taking down the PayPal button. I'll write WTD with the prompts I currently have, but won't be taking more for now. We actually have $546 in PayPal, but we can put the excess toward his followup appointment.

Knock wood that he doesn't have anything horribly wrong besides that. But they seem to think this could be all. I won't really relax until we have the test results, of course! But there is reason for cautious optimism.

Thank you all so much for helping out in all the ways you helped out. More updatery when we get test results back.

EDIT: He is sitting in my closet - his Safe Place - all whoa, I am so stoned right now.

Administration
Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] rfreebern and [livejournal.com profile] ktempest!

Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dpolicar and [livejournal.com profile] kradical!

State of the 'Song
Frazzled, but physically okay.

Jack
(tl;dr for people who didn't see last night: Our cat is in hospital for a dental abscess and probably a broken jaw, estimate is $1K-$1.8K, prognosis unknown, raising money, click "jack" tag for details.)

To those who've chipped in already, thank you so much.

We won't have an update on Jack for a while; the hope is that they have time to operate on him today (they said it depends on the schedule) and that we get to pick him up tonight.

So far auctionwise we have jewelry from [livejournal.com profile] kythryne and [livejournal.com profile] sihaya09, custom jewelry from [livejournal.com profile] rivenwanderer, a scarf from [livejournal.com profile] ginskye, and stuff from me and Adam, TBA. Auctions will get set up this afternoon. Thank you so much, y'all. I haven't had to ask for assistance in quite some time, but this happened at the same time as one equivalent bill and one for twice this much, and it just ain't there.

I've set the fundraising goal as the high side of their estimate. Last time one of our cats had surgery, it exceeded the high estimate. :( If for some wonderful reason Jack actually ends up costing less than the funds raised, excess funds will be diverted to the send-Elayna-to-Explo fund. Donors, please let me know if that's not okay.

Question: Should I create a separate auction community? Or keep it here?

Wind Tunnel Dreams will start this afternoon, as I don't have time to write before work.

So Otherwise
Otherwise, I had a very productive weekend. I realized early Saturday that I was actually having a stress/anxiety reaction whenever I thought about writing or sat down at my computer for any reason - so instead I hauled everything out of my closet, cleaned, reorganized, et cetera. The reading room upstairs is full of stuff for clothing swaps (when are we having one?) and Freecycle, and my parts of the bedroom are spotless. I got Adam and Elayna working on theirs on Sunday and early Monday, until Jack showed up drooling. So there's significant progress.

Link Soup
* Apparently you can list your house as a venue for house concerts. Musicians, anyone use this? Not sure if I want to sign up, or just leave myself as a host just for my friends... speaking of which, people who were at the Rebecca Loebe/Raine Rose house concert, Rebecca's going to be on The Voice!
* I would actually totally wear these pajama sets. They're like Underoos for grownups!
* I'm not the only one who needs financial help - buy books from [livejournal.com profile] norilana!
* Glad I never went to Sleep no More.

Daily Science
In a real-life use of Schrödinger's theoretical paradoxical cat, researchers report that they were able to quickly transfer a complex set of quantum information while preserving its integrity. The information, in the form of light, was manipulated in such a way that it existed in two states at the same time, and it was destroyed in one spot and recreated in another. The new breakthrough is a major step toward building safe, effective quantum computers.

Plans
Well, everything depends upon Jack. My tentative plans = work, writing Wind Tunnel Dreams for Jack, and continuing the expansion of My Empire for Ashes. I had dinner-and-movie plans with [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain (and I need to get with [livejournal.com profile] thewronghands on when I can see her), but all is in flux depending on when we get the call about Jack and what the call says.

*sigh* Okay.

Adam just got back from the animal hospital, and here's the skinny:

He definitely has a dental abscess. His jaw is definitely misaligned. We don't know why. When he's under anesthesia, they're going to see what they can find. They are running a shitload of tests - liver, cancer, infection under the abscess, seeing if the abscess has caused anything else. What happens from here will depend on what they find.

The low estimated total is $999.99.

The high estimated total is $1,835.13.

Have I mentioned that we also owe on taxes and for Explo? But Jack is family.

Starting tomorrow and until I have funds to cover Jack's treatment, I will be doing Wind Tunnel Dreams. For those who weren't here for the last round: WTD is a piece of flash fiction or poetry every day.

The theme of this WTD, because I need to be thinking about Shayara because y'know book contract and deadlines, is Shayara. You do not need to know anything about Shayara to prompt me. Random one-word prompts still work, I'll just be writing Shayara stuff out of 'em, so's you know.

If you donate and prompt me, I must use your prompt.

You can still prompt me if you can't donate, and I may use your prompt, but I'll prioritize paid prompts. If you don't have a prompt but are donating anyway, you can sponsor someone else's prompt.

There will also be a small auction. We have some collectible books, I have BPAL, I have stuff I've knitted (and I'm willing to do custom knitting). I am so not thinking about that tonight; we'll have to deal with it tomorrow.

You can leave your prompts here. If you donate, please also include your prompt in the PayPal notes field, because I may not know your legal name and want to make sure I get to your prompt if you paid for it!

Thank you and I am going to go curl up in a ball now.

EDIT: We have enough money, so I'm taking down the PayPal button, and the auction isn't necessary. Thank you so much!

Jack has a major mouth issue that they think may actually be a broken jaw. He can't close his mouth because his teeth are all of a sudden not mouth-closing compatible. His jaw isn't lining up. Adam and Elayna are taking him to a hospital in JP. He needs teeth removed for absolute certain, and the vet we took him to is like "UM, this could be dangerous for your cat," so to a specialist he goes. He'll be in overnight.

I will not cry. Hell. Poor Jack.

Also this will probably cost over a thousand dollars. We'll find a way.

I have no idea how the hell this even happened. How does this happen?

*heavy sigh* He will be okay. They will fix him. He will be okay.

UPDATE: More info.

So I noticed that Jack wasn't putting his tongue back in his mouth like at all.

And then I noticed the et cetera, to wit:

* Jack is usually extremely hyperactive; now he's just sitting on the table.
* His breathing is a bit labored.
* His front paws and chest are crunchyspiky from dried drool (OMG the drool), and when he tried to lick a paw, the lick was very desultory.
* Little foam on his tongue.
* He looks a bit unfocused.
* He's kinda stinky. But that could just be Jack.
* EDIT: Tried giving him treats; he gave a sniff and tried to lick one, but his tongue may be getting in the way. Didn't eat 'em.

Earliest vet appointment we could get was 4:30. EDIT: He *is* going to the vet. We made the appointment before I posted.

No changes in diet. We've been doing housecleaning, so I could see the dust getting to him re: breathing, but the tongue thing concerns me greatly. Also, he is just sitting here, and people who know Jack know that that is not the natural state of Jack!

So cat people, on a scale of 1 to panic...?

Jack awaits your feedback. (This is not a today pic.)

UPDATE: possible broken jaw. How does that even HAPPEN?

UPDATE: More current update.
